But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for see–I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger.” – Luke 2:10-12
For born on THIS day…a baby, a child. Ordinary, yet born in extraordinary circumstances. Born in a barn to a teenaged mother and a father who questioned parentage. Born in the worst circumstances available, but whose birth announcement came from no less than angels themselves.
A young woman who gives brith after traveling…on a donkey…while 9 moths pregnant…cannot be in a celebratory mood. However, never forget that SHE knew that THIS baby was special, for she’d been told and the message confirmed, and she pondered this in her heart, even after all of the discomfort and unease that occurred in this birth.
BUT…something good can come out of a messy situation. Something good can come out of what looks bad to everyone else. This thing was so extraordinary that the angels (and now we) sing, “Glory to God in the highest heavens, and on earth peace among those whom he favors!”
May all the joy and wonder of the birth of THIS baby be with you. From our family to all of you,
Merry Christmas.
