I believe every couple deserves a wedding ceremony that reflects who they are, what they value, and the commitment they are making to one another. Whether your ceremony is Christian, interfaith, spiritual, secular, or completely non-religious, my goal is to help you create a ceremony that feels authentically yours.
I’m Rev. Guy S. Johnson, founder of Johnson Weddings and an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ. I bring years of pastoral experience, warmth, humor, and careful attention to every ceremony I officiate. I’m married to my husband, Bob, and together we are the proud parents of one very important furball, Poppins.

Are you authorized to officiate weddings in Virginia?
Yes. I am authorized to officiate marriages in Virginia and regularly perform ceremonies throughout Northern Virginia. If your wedding will take place outside Virginia, contact me about your location. Marriage officiant requirements vary by state, and I’ll confirm whether I can legally perform your ceremony there.
Do I have to belong to a church to hire you as my officiant?
Not at all. Johnson Weddings serves couples from many different backgrounds, including couples with no religious affiliation. Your ceremony can be religious, spiritual, secular, or completely non-religious.
Do you provide the wedding venue?
No. Johnson Weddings provides wedding officiant services, not wedding venues. You will need to arrange your ceremony location. I’m happy to officiate at your chosen venue, home, outdoor location, or other mutually agreed-upon ceremony site.
How much does a wedding ceremony cost?
Wedding ceremony services start at $350. Final pricing depends on the ceremony, location, travel, rehearsal needs, and other details. We’ll discuss everything during your consultation so you know exactly what to expect.
Is a deposit required to reserve my wedding date?
Yes. A non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your wedding date. Once your deposit is received, that date is held for you and I may decline other couples who request the same date. For that reason, deposits are non-refundable. Your date is not confirmed until the deposit is received.
When is the final payment due?
Final payment is due no later than 24 hours before the wedding ceremony. This allows us to take care of all financial arrangements in advance so that, on your wedding day, the focus can be exactly where it belongs—on your ceremony and celebration.

Do you officiate LGBTQ+ weddings?
Absolutely. I joyfully officiate weddings for LGBTQ+ couples. Johnson Weddings welcomes and celebrates all couples, and your ceremony will be created with the same care, respect, and attention to your unique relationship and story.

He is a wonderful human and so much fun to be around, as well as an expert in his craft: our “Christian-slash-nondenominational” ceremony was beautiful, and was a very thoughtful balance between religious notes/references, broader words on love and life, and some perfectly-timed lighthearted laughs. It was a pleasure entrusting our big day with Guy. I had a very stressful week leading up to my wedding. Guy sensed my distress and went over and above the call of duty as an officiant to console me and assure me that he was there for me for counsel and comfort if needed. That was very kind of Guy. His job was to marry me and my husband but it was obvious that he takes his calling very seriously. In no time, Guy had me laughing again and that helped me gain the energy to go on with the wedding.
